Through Joshua Oppenheimer's work filming perpetrators of the Indonesian genocide, a family of survivors discovers how their son was murdered - and the identity of the men who murdered him. The killers live just down the road, and have been in power ever since the genocide. The family's youngest son, born after the genocide, asks how he can raise his children in a society where survivors are terrorized into silence, and everybody is terrorized into treating the murderers as heroes. In search of answers, he decides to confront each of his brother's killers. The killers still hold power, so these confrontations are dangerous. The killers respond with fear, anger, and naked threats. But he manages these encounters with dignity, asking hard questions about how the killers see what they did, how they live side-by-side with their victims, and how they think their victims see them. Through these confrontations, we feel and understand what it is like to live for decades encircled by powerful neighbors who murdered your children. The Look Of Silence does something virtually without precedent in cinema or in the aftermath of genocide: it documents survivors confronting their relatives' murderers in the absence of any truth and reconciliation process, while the murderers remain in power.(C) Drafthouse Indonesia

Comment For The Look Of Silence Full Movie In English Watch Online
Name : Stephanie Zacharek / Alias : Village VoiceIf it's a far less flashy film than The Act of Killing, it's also a better and possibly more honest one.
Name : A.O. Scott / Alias : New York TimesMr. Rukun is a quiet man, contemplating his family's tragedy more in sorrow than in anger. But this atmosphere has the effect of making the violence at the film's heart all the more shocking.
Name : Joe Morgenstern / Alias : Wall Street JournalIn a way, I wish I'd never seen "The Look of Silence," because now I won't be able to forget it. But that's the point .
Name : Farran Smith Nehme / Alias : New York PostAs the title indicates, this follow-up is dealing with a somewhat blunter set of symbols than its predecessor. It's just as wrenching, though .
Name : Chris Nashawaty / Alias : Entertainment WeeklyThe Look of Silence in some ways manages to burrow deeper into your soul.and your nightmares.
Name : Wesley Morris / Alias : GrantlandWhat a combination of misery and uplift this movie is.
Name : Kenneth Turan / Alias : Los Angeles TimesA shocking and significant film, a further illumination of one of recent history's great horrors, a documentary that will make a difference in the world. It is also an exceptionally difficult film to actually watch.
Name : A.A. Dowd / Alias : AV ClubThe Look Of Silence is a powerful gesture of political rebellion, one whose boldest action isn't damning mass murderers to their faces, but being willing to believe that their stranglehold on country and history could be broken.
Name : Peter Howell / Alias : Toronto StarThe film is all the more potent for its restraint, as constant on the mind as the cicadas that sound throughout the unyielding night.
Name : Anthony Lane / Alias : New Yorker"The Look of Silence" is a simpler work than "The Act of Killing," and a better one.
Name : Joshua Rothkopf / Alias : Time OutA superior work of confrontational boldness, it might be the movie Oppenheimer wanted to make in the first place.
Name : Alonso Duralde / Alias : TheWrapFeels more like an extended DVD extra to Oppenheimer's genre-defying previous film than a stand-alone documentary.
Name : Ty Burr / Alias : Boston GlobeThere's a rage far beneath Adi's placid expression and the director's dispassionate style. It's not a rage for vengeance but anger at an all-consuming blindness.
Name : Peter Rainer / Alias : Christian Science MonitorMy relief in watching this movie, which once again recounts the slaughters in great, almost fetishistic detail, is that at least the victims are allowed a voice this time.
Name : Nick Schager / Alias : Village VoiceOppenheimer throws into sharp relief the contrast between Adi and the murderers' perspectives, and thus the terrifying tension that engulfs the country as a whole.
Name : Erik McClanahan / Alias : Minneapolis Star TribuneWhile not as mind-blowing or surprising as "Killing," "The Look of Silence" is perhaps the more necessary film.
Name : Dana Stevens / Alias : Slate[It] isn't quite documentary filmmaking, but it certainly (and sickeningly) isn't fiction either.
Name : Stephanie Merry / Alias : Washington PostA . profoundly shattering movie.
Name : Mark Jenkins / Alias : NPRThe Look of Silence . uses members of a single family to represent the millions of victims and survivors.
Name : Liam Lacey / Alias : Globe and MailThe stories the perpetrators tell are hideous, but Adi proves to be a calm and unrelenting interrogator, even in the face of direct death threats.
Name : Walter V. Addiego / Alias : San Francisco ChronicleIt's a testimony to how much this is a live issue in Indonesia that some of the credits are listed simply as "anonymous."
